Discover the Unique Terroir of Trailside

“60 years in the making, we have arrived at the right time to share this wine with you. The 2022 Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine of vision, of fascination, of exploration. It is a new wine from old soils. Where mavericks from the old world and new world converge.”

THE VINEYARD

Our storied plot on Rutherford's east side in Napa Valley, Trailside Vineyard is where the classicism of the Old World—and Old Napa—harmonize with modern winemaking practices. The vineyard's landscape is a testament to nature’s diversity, shaped by an extraordinary range of geological features. From volcanic slopes to sandy riverbanks and granite boulders, every element of Trailside tells a story of terroir and character.

What sets Trailside apart lies beneath the surface. While the vineyard may appear uniform from above, it hides 40 distinct soil profiles, each contributing to the complexity and uniqueness of the wine it produces.

“I have known Carlton McCoy for many years…. When he approached me with the idea of making a Cabernet from one of the historical vineyards…I was immediately interested. The brief was clear: make wines you will enjoy drinking, in a style that you love.”

Jeremy Seysses, Winemaker

THE wine

These are wines of distinction, crafted for those who seek to push the boundaries of Napa’s iconic terroir. Trailside wines are a true reflection of place—dynamic, powerful, and elegant. With vines deeply rooted in diverse soil types, our team produces wines that are vibrant, complex, and full of life.

Trailside is more than just a vineyard—it’s a revolution in winemaking. Employing techniques rarely seen in Napa, such as whole cluster fermentation for Cabernet Sauvignon and submerged cap practices typically used in Burgundy and Piedmont, our approach redefines what’s possible in Napa winemaking.

“We selected to create a wine of energy, a wine of power, a wine of finesse. We’re using those sandy gravely soils for that red lift, beauty, energy.”
